Tips to Sell Your Car Fast

You're looking to get top dollar for your car. Weigh the pros of dollars vs. the time spent in selling your car. Don't overlook the ease and convenience of trading it in, however, if you're convinced you've got the time and energy. Let's sell your car.

Begin by gathering al of your documents. Know where your title is, locate the service records. Make note of when you got the tires, battery, if there is a warranty. All of this preparation will help when you have a prospective buyer asking you questions. The "I don't know" works once, but after a while you sound like you're coving something up.

Wash the car. Use some wax, too. Make it look shiny and new. Take out the garbage from under the seats, clean the trunk, floor boards - by all means clean the dust off the dash board! Take a look at your car from the buyers prospective. Would you want to buy it? When it's clean and pretty, remember you're selling it... don't get re-attached to it. Now, take pictures. Take a lot. You want at least 10. Take them from the front, back, sides, sitting in the drivers seat, the stereo, the sunroof, take a bunch, they'll be helpful in your online ad or if you email someone pictures.

Think about the minor issues and fix them. If your tire is bald, just replace it. If the seat is torn a seat cover might do the trick! Remember, high school kids aren't all that picky - if the stereo works great, they'll like the leopard print seat covers.

Don't hide the history of the car. Most likely it's already in an online car history. Once the person writes down the VIN, they can apply for the report. Honesty will go further toward making the sale.

Do a little homework online about pricing. Just because Kelly Blue Book says it's work a certain amount doesn't mean you'll get it. It's a starting point. Your customer will be looking at the same pricing so don't make the price too high. I'd recommend looking at online car sites to find one similar to yours. Again, just because they're asking the price doesn't mean they'll get it. If you got a price from a dealer for a trade in, you know what the base price is you can get, so be realistic. You don't want to own two cars.

When writing your ad be positive. If you've got new tires, or low mileage, by all means start out the ad with those facts. Also miles per gallon is very useful to a potential buyer. If the interior is clean, or the exterior is in nearly new condition, stress these positivies. Then get to the features, like keyless entry, sun roof, automatic, car alarm. Also state how you are willing to get paid. You'll prevent a bunch of "tire kickers" if you say cash only (in the event you are unwilling to take a personal check).

There are many free sites online to list your card. However, don't be turned off from paying around $30.00 for the listing. Sometimes it's worth it to pay a little to get more expsoure. Start with the free ones and see what happens. Make sure to put a sign in the car while it's in the driveway, you'd be suprised as to how many people "know someone" looking for a car!

When you start getting customers, be ready! You should already have your talking points about the condition of the car, it's repair history, the terms you are ready to accept. By all means have a bottom line. You will get someone that will give you a low price, do not be insulted, this is what you are enlisting for by not trading in your car. Instead, look at this as a game, you don't want the car, you do want to sell it. Put your gameface on and negotiate. But again, be realistic. If you've done your home work and you know what the dealer will give you on a trade in, you know what the blue book price is, and you know what they are listing for online, the only thing you don't know is how high the potential buyer will go... just remember, you want to sell the car. Don't lose a sale over $25.00.

Happy Car Sales!
